Spring is almost here and so is spring cleaning! While your floors may be due for a deep cleaning this spring, it is important to implement a cleaning routine year-round that will help to maintain and protect your floors. Consistency is key, but so is practicality. We understand that everyone has different needs, flooring types, and time - but this general cleaning schedule has been proven to be effective for many of our customers.
Daily cleaning- it sounds like a lot! The truth is, that 5-10 minutes of tidying up will save you both time and money in the future. Try to sweep or vacuum your floors once a day to keep dirt, pet hair, and debris from accumulating. This is especially important in high traffic areas (such as an entryway, main hallway, or family room) and for carpeted areas. If dirt sits on your carpet, and is met by a lot of foot traffic, it is rubbed into the carpet further. In some cases, this actually can damage the carpet fibers making it not only harder to clean, but over time can make your carpet more worn and appear “fuzzy”. A quick vacuum can go a long way in making your flooring last years.
Set up a day of the week that works for you to do a weekly cleaning of your floors. This includes mopping your floors to remove deeper dirt and grime. Depending on your type of flooring, use the appropriate cleaning solution and mop. If there is a spill or stain, treat right away and spot clean.
Lastly, every floor can benefit from a deep clean. If you are ambitious, you can deep clean monthly. However, that is not always realistic as this is the most time-consuming clean. If you have tile you will want to clean the grout and refresh the lines between the tiles. If you have hardwood, you may want to look into a polish. And for carpet a deep clean will require the use of special equipment. This is where Pg Long can help! We offer both carpet and hard surface cleaning and our techs have specialized tools to get your stubborn stains out. We can remove stains and odor, bringing even older flooring back to life. During a deep clean it is important not to forget commonly overlooked areas such as closets and stairs. Deep cleanings can be done on an “as needed” basis, or many of our customers prefer to stay ahead of it by having Pg Long’s cleaning techs come out on a quarterly or bi-yearly schedule depending on their needs. We would be happy to help you set up the ideal schedule for your floors.
As you can see, having clean and well-maintained floors is not as complicated as TruRinse one may think. Rather, it just takes a consistent commitment of small tasks that pay off in the long run. Setting up a cleaning schedule is a great way to stay on top of it, prolonging the life of your floors for years to come.
